Carrier Breaks Ground on New Facility in China
SHANGHAI -
Carrier China officially broke ground today on a new, world-class manufacturing campus in Baoshan Industrial Zone, Shanghai. Scheduled for full completion in 2021, the new campus will consolidate and further expand the existing Carrier manufacturing capacities in China to meet the greater local and regional demands of heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) products for commercial and light commercial applications. Carrier is a part of UTC Climate, Controls & Security, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX).
With an investment of US$ 95 million, this new manufacturing facility will combine excellence in process technology and project implementation with outstanding manufacturing efficiency, product quality and safety performance. Carrier’s existing production lines for compressor, airside and light commercial will be relocated to the new campus in the first phase by 2018. When it reaches its full operational capacity in 2021, the campus will also house chiller production lines.

Shaojun Fan, chief executive of Baoshan District, Shanghai, Wenjun Shi, deputy director general of Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Information, Ming Lv, deputy chief executive of Baoshan District, Shanghai, commenced the ground breaking ceremony along with senior company executives, including Ross Shuster, president, International Operations, UTC Climate, Controls & Security, as well as Gaurang Pandya , president, Asia Pacific, UTC Climate, Controls & Security and George Li, vice president, UTC Climate, Controls & Security, China.

The office building is designed to meet the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) Gold standards while the manufacturing facilities are designed for LEED Silver standards.
