Stand 2A/2B, Hall 16, EuroShop, Düsseldorf, Germany, Feb. 16-20, 2020
Carrier Commercial Refrigeration, a pioneer in the use of the natural refrigerant carbon dioxide (CO2), will present ground-breaking CO2 solutions for commercial and warehouse applications at EuroShop 2020, the world’s largest trade fair for food retail investors. Carrier Commercial Refrigeration is a part of Carrier, a leading global provider of innovative heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC), refrigeration, fire, security and building automation technologies.
A stroll through Carrier’s ‘cool’ stand at EuroShop will take visitors through supermarket environments as well as a virtual indoor ski arena simulator that includes a live game, mirroring the SNØ year-round indoor ski experience, the largest CO2 transcritical installation in Norway, which is cooled by Carrier’s PowerCO2OL system. More than 20 years ago, Carrier pioneered the use of CO2 for food retail refrigeration and has been advancing its leadership in this area ever since, producing more than 13,000 CO2 racks in 2019, while expanding into warehouse applications.
“EuroShop 2020 is a great opportunity for Carrier to further raise awareness of CO2 technology and show how it applies to both food retail and warehouse applications. We are very proud to offer this large-scale technology with our PowerCO2OL system that provides benefits in sustainability, energy savings and efficiency,” said Pierre Boyer, general manager, Carrier Mechanical Systems.
In 2019, Carrier launched its advanced CO2OLtec® Evo system including a patented innovative modulating vapor ejector, assisted by a CO2 pump. With up to 30% annual energy reduction (AEC, versus a standard transcritical system), Carrier’s CO2OLtec EVO system has raised the bar in high-efficiency performance, making the CO2 systems a viable alternative in warmer climates as well as providing heat reclaim advantages in cold and mild climates.
CO2, a natural refrigerant, is a safe, non-ozone depleting gas with a global warming potential (GWP) of 1. Carrier will present a smaller version of CO2OLtec® Evo for applications under 100kW, ideal for small supermarkets, at EuroShop 2020. This version of Carrier’s CO2OLtec® Evo will be entirely integrated into a single, compact rack, showcasing sustainable, high refrigeration efficiency for small formats.
Carrier’s new and compact centrifugal gas cooler complements the CO2OLtec® Evo miniaturized version. To fit stringent requirements of city centers, this gas cooler can be split in two parts to adapt and ease accessibility into small machine rooms and basements. Its floor space has also been optimized. In addition to these upgrades, Carrier’s new compact gas cooler is energy efficient and silent.PowerCO2OL, Carrier’s flagship refrigeration platform, will be showcased at the stand’s area dedicated to warehouse applications. Highly adaptable and efficient, this solution is suitable for a variety of applications such as medium to large warehouses, distribution centers, food processing sites or sport venues, and more.
The PowerCO2OL platform comes as a single- or dual-temperature solution. It has high-energy efficiency due to its integrated CO2OLtec EVO technology. PowerCO2OL achieves a cooling capacity up to 1.5 megawatts per rack. Carrier has designed installations up to five megawatts by combining five racks with full heat recovery capability, ideal for sanitary hot water.
