Carrier Launches Its First Centre of Excellence for HVAC Skill Development in Collaboration with Jamia Millia Islamia’s University Polytechnic

Carrier India is proud to announce the launch of its first Centre of Excellence dedicated to the skill development in the HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) sector. Aligned with its commitment to fostering a skilled and inclusive workforce, Carrier supports initiatives that emphasize STEM education and future-ready capabilities essential for intelligent climate and energy solutions. This initiative, in collaboration with Jamia Millia Islamia's University Polytechnic (JMI), aims to bridge the skill gap in the HVAC industry and empower students with knowledge and practical expertise. 

This Centre of Excellence, implemented in collaboration with United Way of India, features a state-of-the-art training lab, offering students an immersive, real-world learning experience using the latest HVAC technologies. Industry experts will mentor students, ensuring they remain at the forefront of the latest industry trends. Additionally, students will receive soft skills training, enhancing their employability and preparing them for successful careers in the HVAC field. 

Sundaresan Narayanan, Managing Director of Carrier India, commented on the company's vision: "We signed the agreement with JMI in December 2024 and I am excited as we inaugurate the Centre of Excellence today, Carrier’s commitment to innovation and societal progress is exemplified by our new Centre of Excellence for HVAC skill development. It equips them with the essential skills to drive advancements in energy-efficient and sustainable solutions.”  

The event was attended by several senior academics from the University. Prof. Mazhar Asif, Vice Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia, expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration, “This collaboration with Carrier is a significant step toward enhancing our students’ practical knowledge and employability. We are proud to be part of this initiative, which ensures that our students are well-prepared for the evolving HVAC sector and its growing demands." 

Prof. Md Mahtab Alam Rizvi, Registrar, appreciated the efforts in this collaboration and thanked Carrier for their support. He emphasized the importance of industry-academic collaboration in the current scenario. 

Prof. Mini S Thomas, Dean of FET, highlighted the need for periodic reviews to increase the employability of students. 

Prof. M A Khan, Principal, Polytechnic, appreciated Carrier India’s role in this joint undertaking, highlighting the importance of skill-based education in promoting innovation and startups. He added that the Centre of Excellence will support student-led projects and advanced research. 

Dr. Sujeet Ranjan, CEO of United Way of India, also emphasized the importance of such strategic collaborations: "United Way of India is honored to support this initiative to foster inclusive growth and address the growing need for skilled professionals in India." 

With certification and on-ground knowledge, this Centre of Excellence aims to set new benchmarks in skill development, providing students with the expertise needed to address the evolving needs of the industry.
