Electrical Benefits with the AquaEdge® 23XRV
Carrier’s AquaEdge® 23XRV is the world’s first water-cooled variable speed screw chiller. The 23XRV combines the reliability of a screw compressor with the energy savings of a variable frequency drive (VFD).
With the use of a refrigerant-cooled LF2 variable frequency drive (VFD) with activation rectification, AquaEdge® 23XRV chillers meet the recommended practices and requirements set forth in IEEE-519 for harmonic control in electrical systems.

For a Minimum Circuit Ampacity (MCA) of 400, the maximum capacities are as follows:
- Higher power factor results in lower MCA
- Can reduce wire size
- Can reduce breaker size
23XRV can help increase capacity of old chiller plants using existing wires.
*AHRI Operating Conditions: 44°F (6.67°C) LCWT/2.40gpm/ton (0.043 L/s per kW) & 85°F (29.4°C) EcdWT/3.00gpm/ton (0.054 L/s per kW)
In replacement jobs, where electrical is already in place, the 23XRV can provide more tons per amp than a constant speed or variable speed drive centrifugal chiller.
Higher power factor results in lower MCA, which in turn can result in smaller wire sizes and smaller breakers, thus leading to less installation cost.
