Carrier Helps Advance Cold Chain Development and Training in West Africa
Carrier supports the UN World Food Programme Transport Training Centre in Ghana
Carrier and World Food Programme's Strategic Vision
In 2022, Carrier, global leader in intelligent climate and energy solutions, forged a strategic collaboration with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), the world’s largest humanitarian organization, to help advance cold chain development and training in West Africa.
WFP is working with global partners, including Carrier, to build a world-class Transport Training Centre in Accra, Ghana, aimed at enhancing transport and logistics capacities across West Africa and beyond. Once completed, the centre will inject new expertise into local transport markets, equipping them to deliver key humanitarian goods, including food aid and medicines, more efficiently throughout the region.

The WFP Transport Training Centre
Bringing together leading organizations in the sector, the centre offers online and in-person training to hundreds of people per year. Trainings include best practices in road transport, fleet management and the safe transport of temperature-sensitive commodities for staff of humanitarian organizations, governments and the local private sector.
Carrier supports and contributes to the project by providing equipment and tools for refrigerated vehicles and by developing training programs on cold chain, best practices, operation and maintenance of transport refrigeration equipment.

Since 2023, while the Transport Training Centre is still under construction, the WFP facility in Accra has already organized and hosted numerous virtual and on-site training sessions, bringing together more than 440 participants coming from 21 different countries. Approximately 35% of the participants are women.
The Transport Training Centre supports Carrier’s focus on expanding the cold chain – in turn improving health outcomes and reducing hunger, food insecurity and carbon emissions.
