New Carrier Evaporator Coil Improves Efficiency and Durability
INDIANAPOLIS -
Carrier’s Vertex™ patent-pending technology meets new 2023 minimum efficiency standards and improves corrosion resistance to prolong coil life
Carrier, a leader in home comfort solutions, has launched a new evaporator coil with Vertex™ technology, for use in home air-conditioning systems, meeting the U.S. Department of Energy’s efficiency requirements that take effect in 2023. Vertex™ technology delivers more controlled and uniform airflow over the coil to improve heat transfer, reduce pressure drop, and increase system efficiency and reliability. Carrier is a part of Carrier Global Corporation (NYSE: CARR), the leading global provider of healthy, safe, sustainable and intelligent building and cold chain solutions.
“Vertex™ technology is a lighter, highly innovative evaporator coil that delivers greater efficiency and durability with the same footprint and comparable heights as the current evaporator coils that it’s replacing,” said Mark Lampe, Product Marketing, Residential HVAC, Carrier.
Fifteen patents are pending on the new V-shaped indoor coil. Several distinct design features help reduce corrosion and prolong the coil’s life:
- The coil’s “V” design channels water away from the coil’s superheated region to minimize condensate blow-off.
- The unique geometry also reduces condensate sweating by reducing the amount of surface inside the cabinet exposed to conditioned air.
- A lighter, corrosion-resistant aluminum construction increases system efficiency and durability.
- Brazed joints that are positioned at the top of the coil, away from condensate, provide further corrosion protection. Overall, Carrier has reduced the number of manually brazed joints from 13 to just three.
“Vertex™ technology is part of the innovative work that we’re doing across our product lines and segments to help customers meet new 2023 efficiency requirements,” said Justin Keppy, President, NA Residential & Light Commercial HVAC Carrier. “The efficient, innovative and sustainable products that we’re introducing provide total indoor comfort solutions backed by world-class design, engineering and manufacturing. This work exemplifies our commitment to excellence by reshaping the future of HVAC performance.”
Carrier also designed the new coil with Vertex™ technology for ease of installation. The installation process will remain the same as the current evaporator coils; however, service is improved with a front-mounted TXV and full access to all sides of the coil for cleaning. The evaporator coil with Vertex™ technology also uses the same 3/8” liquid line inlet and line-set connection as the current coils, is up to 46% lighter weight than current coils and has the same footprint and comparable heights, to help make system replacement fast, easy and hassle-free.
