Program
SmartSave is a program offered to residential homeowners that makes it easy to save energy and earn rewards while keeping you in control of your comfort.
The program works by reducing energy usage during higher rate, peak demand periods, which contributes to electricity savings on your utility bill. Savings may vary depending on your location, utility provider, home, equipment, weather, and other factors, and continued participation is required for ongoing incentives. The program and incentives are subject to change at any time with notice provided via the SmartHome app.
These Program Terms & Conditions (these “Terms”) outline program details and requirements. Carrier Corporation (“Carrier”) may revise these Terms at any time with notice provided via the SmartHome app.

Enrollment
You can enroll in SmartSave via the SmartHome app. When enrolling, your utility meter will be enrolled in your local electric utility company, gas utility company, or other energy company, or your local grid operator, including any of their third-party contractors or agents (any and all of those entities collectively referred to here as your “Utility”) program for adjusting your energy consumption during peak hours. By enrolling in SmartSave, you agree that Carrier and/or its third-party contractors or agents have permission to access your smart thermostat or wall control and use your thermostat or wall control and connected equipment data to offer, enable, manage your participation in, provide support for, and improve the SmartSave program.
Your enrollment in SmartSave will depend on your Utility approving your application. You understand that your enrollment request may be declined, or your enrollment terminated, if you do not satisfy eligibility requirements, if the information you submit is not accurate, or for any other reason. Your request for enrollment is voluntary and optional, and you are not required to be enrolled in SmartSave to use your smart thermostat or wall control. You release and hold harmless Carrier and its third-party contractors and agents from any liability, claim, demand, cause of action, damage or expense resulting from your participation in the SmartSave program.
Please read these Terms in their entirety. These Terms, together with your Utility Program Terms and the Carrier Privacy Notice, form your agreement to participate in the SmartSave program. These Terms are effective when you submit your enrollment request and will continue until your participation is terminated.
Participation in Events
Carrier Smart Thermostat: The program will occasionally adjust your thermostat by just a few degrees to reduce energy usage of your HVAC system. When the Utility signals to reduce energy usage, or when necessary to run a test event, Carrier will remotely signal to adjust your thermostat up to 4 degrees or up to the preferred range you specify in the SmartHome app to reduce energy usage. You retain the flexibility to override any event by resetting your thermostat to your desired comfort level at any point from the thermostat or the SmartHome app as noted below.
Infinity System Control: The program will occasionally adjust the power demand of the outdoor unit to reduce HVAC system energy usage. These adjustments will occur at times to be determined by the Utility – typically during periods of peak energy demand or to run a system test. The power demand adjustment may result in a slight temperature change of up to 4 degrees. You retain the flexibility to cancel any event as noted below.
Overriding Events
Carrier Smart Thermostat: SmartSave occasionally adjusts your thermostat set point up to 4 degrees, while giving you the flexibility to reset your thermostat to your desired comfort level at any point from the thermostat or the SmartHome app.
Infinity System Control: You retain the flexibility to cancel any event by tapping the “cancel event” button on your wall control or on the SmartHome app.
Note that Carrier reserves the right to disenroll you from the SmartSave program if there are excessive overrides or cancellation of events, or you may be ineligible for the $20 annual reward.
Savings
Your HVAC system is typically a large component of your home’s energy usage. Reducing energy usage of your HVAC system during higher rate, peak demand periods (when utilities tend to charge the highest rates) contributes to electricity savings on your utility bill. Savings may vary depending on your location, utility provider, home, equipment, weather, and other factors. If you override events, you will likely not realize these savings.
Estimated energy and monetary savings reflected in the SmartHome app are estimates only and not actual savings. Estimates are based on:
- KWH difference: Base line - energy consumption = KWH difference with average
- KWH difference > 0, KWH = energy saving
- Money savings = KWH * (Average KWH in state)
- Appliance savings: KWH / Average KWH consumption for appliance
Estimated equivalent energy saved examples reflected in the SmartHome app are estimates only and not actual equivalents. Estimates are based on local average KwH according to local utility data and typical energy usage per hour associated with various activities. For example purposes only:
- California avg KwH = 46.8
- TV - 234 watts per hour
- Gaming - 706 Watts per hour
- iPhone Charging - 5 watts per hour
- Smart Lamp - 10 watts per hour
Rewards
To reward your participation in SmartSave, Carrier offers a $25 enrollment reward and annual $20 rewards for continued participation. Please note the enrollment and annual reward incentives can change at any time without notice. Continued participation means you participate without excessive overrides or cancellation of events in a year. Rewards are provided through Carrier or its program partners in the form of a virtual or physical pre-paid card once your eligibility to participate in the program is confirmed.
Confirmation of eligibility is provided via the SmartHome app. If you are a new participant, your reward should be available in ~4-6 weeks. Instructions will be emailed on how to claim your reward. If you do not receive your expected rewards (physical or virtual pre-paid card), our program partner can help you to resolve the issue. You can contact our program partner by emailing them at [email protected]. Please note that Carrier reserves the right to disenroll you from the SmartSave program if there are excessive overrides or cancellation of events. Carrier also reserves the right to discontinue the program at any time which will stop any rewards from being distributed.
Comfort
Carrier Smart Thermostat: Depending on your HVAC system, adjusting your thermostat up to 4 degrees or up to the preferred range you specify in the SmartHome app to reduce energy usage during events should have minimal impact on your overall comfort. Our premium HVAC systems are designed to operate efficiently even when reducing energy usage a minimal amount. If your system is not maintaining your desired level of comfort during events, you can override the event or adjust your preferred range specified in the SmartHome app.
Infinity System Control: Depending on your HVAC system, adjusting your power demand on the outdoor unit to reduce energy usage during events should have minimal impact on your overall comfort. Our premium HVAC systems are designed to operate efficiently even when reducing energy usage a minimal amount. If your system is not maintaining your desired level of comfort during events, you can cancel the event on the wall control or in the SmartHome app.
Please keep in mind that Carrier reserves the right to disenroll you from the SmartSave program if there are excessive overrides or cancellation of events.
Partners
Carrier works with trusted partners to make the SmartSave program available to you. Your Utility and other third-party partners participate in and/or help to implement the SmartSave program. When you accept these terms and enroll in SmartSave, you are also accepting the terms and conditions of your Utility and other third-party partners (together your “Partner Terms”), which include: https://www.leap.energy/terms-of-service. If your Utility or any partners change their terms and conditions in connection with the SmartSave program, you may need to accept their new terms, but these SmartSave Terms will remain in effect until Carrier notifies you of a change via the SmartHome app. By accepting these terms, you authorize participating third-party partners as grid services providers including to (i) analyze the electrical load, technology controls and/or electrical usage data associated with your HVAC system, and (ii) otherwise offer, enable, manage your participation in, provide support for, and/or improve the SmartSave program.
Disconnection
If your smart thermostat or wall control becomes disconnected from Wi-Fi, we will send one or more notifications for you to resolve the issue via push notification from the SmartHome app and/or email notification to your account email address. Please note your eligibility for rewards will be suspended during periods of disconnection.
If your smart thermostat or wall control is not reconnected to Wi-Fi in a timely manner, you will be disenrolled from SmartSave and will receive a disenrollment notification for the affected device(s). Please note any rewards not yet earned and claimed will be forfeited.
If you choose to re-enroll you may do so via the SmartHome app. You will not be eligible for a re-enrollment incentive upon re-enrollment and your eligibility for annual rewards will reset going forward.
Cancellation
You can cancel your participation in SmartSave via the SmartHome app. Please note your eligibility for rewards will terminate and any rewards not yet earned and claimed will be forfeited.
Privacy
These Terms incorporate the Carrier Privacy Notice made available via the SmartHome app at https://www.carrier.com/residential/en/us/legal/privacy-notice/. Carrier and its trusted program partners may use your personal information and any thermostat and connected equipment data to offer, enable, manage your participation in, provide support for, and improve the SmartSave program, and as otherwise provided in the Carrier Privacy Notice.
